How Long Does Update From Windows Version 1709 To Version 1803 Take
Windows ten Update 1709 to 1803
Good Day to all,
I accept this problem regarding updating Windows 10 1709 to 1803. I've already followed the mutual solutions regarding issues in updating windows. I as well tried Windows 10 update banana and Creating media creation tool. Merely still no luck. Tin everyone assist me identify the problem using the Windows Update log file that I've attached?
Your aid will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
Christian
I've encounter similar non-specific upgrade errors due to being on older BIOS versions. If these are yet model reckoner, I would look for common denominators like BIOS revision or installed drivers or software.

Running a transmission upgrade will requite you more details - simply failure could be because of FDE (think bitlocker), AV or other unsupported production

What AV software if whatsoever is installed? Wass the latest build installed before trying the 1803 upgrade?

jrp78, I replied with screenshot of errors, merely nevertheless beingness reviewed past spiceworks moderators.
Rod-Information technology;AceOfSpades, no antivirus, just Windows Defender. the current build is Windows 10 version 1709 (OS build 16299.579)

It clearly has something stopping the upgrade - does it have bitlocker or any other full disk encryption, is it dual boot, does it run Hyper-Five - it has to be doing something.

Hither are a few things you lot could try
- run Microsoft Update Troubleshooting tool https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/10164/set-windows-update-errors
- make certain to have the latest BIOS
- startup in a clean boot country, and try running the update again

For about 10 of the 150 computers we have on win 10, I take had to gear up back to manufactory and run all of the updates.
It was quicker for me to do that as background task than to try to spend hours nutting information technology out.
If it was more than ten computers I would have done something more drastic, just I was able to spread them out over time.

I was simply thinking perhaps the media creation tool has it's own logs. I establish this article. https://support.microsoft.com/en-u.s.a./assist/928901/log-files-that-are-created-when-you-upgrade-to-a-new...
Bank check to come across if y'all accept whatsoever logs that might have some more clues.

We recently came across this event it was related to the language pack that was installed on the machines when they we originally pre built by the vendor.
I created an image to include the 1803 though the windows deployment tool kit extracted the correct version for the new machines.
but the work effectually for us was to download the correct language version from US to United kingdom of great britain and northern ireland (Caters from Australia Language)
having said that we are using desktop key to manage the patches not WSUS and downloaded the 1803 update then transmission install that to the affected machines
Hope this might assist in the case
cheers Scott

I had similar bug with this update.
I found using the Windows 10 Update Assistant worked for me.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
I had to utilize the same thing on a couple of machines. No obvious reason for the failure merely I think information technology was hardware related due tot he fact almost all my problem machines are from the aforementioned batch. Everything was as up to appointment every bit the manufacturer would allow.
On one machine it however failed trying this so I backed upwards the profile and did a make clean install of 1803 and information technology'south been fine since. Except that 1803 seems very heavy and then it'south slowed it downward horribly but that's not unique to this machine.

Never had this happen with the upgrade to 1803, but I recall often having update issues caused past SATA drivers. Try removing the name-brand SATA commuter from Device Director (Intel, etc) and let Windows install a generic commuter. Reboot, and effort the update once more.
This is i of those cases where the solution is counter-intuitive. Using the "right" driver acquired a problem, while using the generic commuter fixed it.

Nosotros have had a similar situation besides. On one machine we did a restore back to a couple of weeks prior to the final update then re-launched the update and that worked.

Happens quite oft to us when running software to deploy and image. Download Microsoft Update Assistant and it will download and install just fine. It is a hurting when you take xx-30 PCs to do that to, simply that'southward the ready I accept establish to be the least invasive.

Pitiful this is a long chain and may have been addressed. Did you lot roll dorsum the last update then try the upgrade banana? We had to do that on a few machines.

Looking at the log, y'all take a corrupted Microsoft Update service (GUID = "7971F918-A847-4430-9279-4A52D1EFE18D"). When this happens yous will also have bug installing security patches on that automobile. I had a couple of Windows 10 v1703 machines with this issue. The mode I've gotten around this in the past is to create an ISO prototype of the Windows 10 update and do the update manually, but do NOT cheque the box to go updates during the main install. Later the install those machines started working properly.

I had same consequence when nosotros updating to 1803. Make sure the brandish drivers of the system is upward-to-engagement.
The main issue that caused my computer from not updating was the update non able to restore the "Contempo Items" listing (From my log files). I cleared the list and the update was successful.

If this is but one computer, you're wasting your time. Re-image. Always consider how much time you're spending to fix when you could just start fresh in a predictable & minimal fourth dimension frame.
EDIT: Patently the truth isn't helpful to someone out there, so I'll throw in stuff the OP has probably already tried. I still remember that based on the fact he's opening a topic here and didn't say computers--plural, he'due south already wasted too much time.
one. Reset windows update, scripts are bachelor hither on Spiceworks.
ii. Run SFC3. 'Reset' Windows
If that doesn't work, and then re-image because you've definitely wasted more time than that would take.

We had to uninstall Symantec and apply Windows Defender to get 1803 to work (which is fine for us).

Everything I'1000 reading on that error is that y'all don't take plenty resources. What are the specs of the machine you're trying to update? How much free space does it accept (feature upgrades are known to crave up to 40GB complimentary space)?

As something else to try, a bones chkdsk /f on c: and the recovery partition may help, and an sfc /scannow never hurts, its always a good place to outset by checking file integrity, otherwise WU Assistant as other accept suggested or Create an 1803 iso and don't check for updates during install.

Beat me to it Mike400!
I have hit a few of these too where I take had to run the update manually from ISO and non have the updates (though, information technology however seems to pull updates later in the session on some). Then just run Windows Update\WSUS afterwards. Do the manual install with updates, and I blows upwardly.
I had i random 1 where it concluded upwards being the USB dongle for my Logitech keyboard\mouse combo that threw a like error (but that was for an older update, not 1803 or 1709).

It clearly has something stopping the upgrade - does it have bitlocker or any other full disk encryption, is it dual boot, does it run Hyper-V - information technology has to exist doing something.
FDE may non be this obvious. In all my experience with any Win10 upgrade, you won't get errors. The upgrade only won't be applied, once it reboots. You lot'll likely get some odd kicking screens, and dual-booting.

The easiest is to backup, wipe & install fresh & restore files. I have one PC that even so won't properly update - its a driver issue that'south not compatible and i oasis't taken time to set information technology and since its my machine - i actually don't care I'll work effectually it. the rest that I accept done this with I take updated all the drivers to be new or current from the manufacturer and at that place hasn't been an event to appointment

Is upgrade the merely option or tin y'all non create a another partition, and wipe the original? If not, I would try as others suggested and use the upgrade assistant. It scans and tells you whatsoever possible reasons that an upgrade is not possible.

Brand sure that the firewall or anything isn't blocking it. I would offset with a make clean install if you can if this isn't already a clean one. I would also check if whatever Antivirus could exist blocking it, etc.

Downlevel stage: Considering this phase runs on the source OS, upgrade errors are not typically seen. If y'all do encounter an error, ensure the source OS is stable. Besides ensure the Windows setup source and the destination drive are attainable.
It says it is failing at this phase so this might be something you have to check if you have non already.

One thing we do in our It department when Windows update is hung up or gives usa an fault is become into the registry (as admin) follow this path: HKLM>software>policies>Microsoft>Windows>WindowsUpdate>AU. Modify the UseWUServer value data to "0". After that, open up Services (as Admin) and restart the Windows Update Service. This volition reset Windows Update and download and install all of the current updates. Also, you can use the link below to download the 1803 version from the Microsoft site using Windows ten Update Assistant which as well works for u.s.a..

I didn't bother to read all of the other replies, so I apologize if this was already mentioned. Try uninstalling KB4338825 and so run the upgrade again. In fact, you might desire to try to uninstall each of the most recent round of OS updates (not Office updates).

I have see this issue, for me the only solution is to "reset" windows, the selection to reset but keep your information is the option I used. I backed up my laptop, reset Windows, I and so UPGRADED windows to 1803, then reinstalled my applications. I also discovered some of my apps no longer supported Windows 10, and had to purchase upgrades for those. Patently 1803 is sort of a MAJOR change. So don't panic when drivers and apps don't work, download the latest versions and reinstall them. Central part is RESET with keeping your data, otherwise you lot blow out the whole thing, and if your like me, your life personal and professional person life is stored on your laptop. MAKE Sure Yous HAVE A Practiced BACKUP before doing ANYTHING! :)

I was having the aforementioned issue, I just downloaded and run this script (Equally administrator)
https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/Reset-Windows-Update-Amanuensis-d824badc
It basically reset all the Windows Update services and delete all corrupted updates to start fresh.
After I run information technology the updated worked perfectly.

Have you lot tried taking it off the domain and installing the update?
thumb_up thumb_down

I had a similar issue with a Windows 10 PC. I tried just about everything, but in the end I had to terminate up doing a repair install from a bootable Windows 10 USB stick. After I did that I was able to run the update that wouldn't install properly.

Yeah I've had my fair share of 1803 problems as well... Some of them were solved by running windows update troubleshooter, some others with the update assistant, while some others I had to create a total installation media and do an update manually. For the latter, make sure you do it without applying updates during installation.
thumb_up thumb_down
-
We had to do this likewise... with all of our machines. They wouldn't take either 1709 or 1803 updates while joined to the domain merely updated without upshot as presently as they were put into a workgroup. After they were updated we put them back on the domain and farther updates were fine.

I have only scanned the replies, so may have missed something, in which case I apologise. Notwithstanding, I had one hell of a trouble upgrading to 1803 from anything with volume licence media - this transpired to be a dodgy ISO from Microsoft. I'thou unsure if information technology was the same fault simply it was something similar. New installs were fine.
I recall the upgrade was cached somewhere (may non take been SoftwareDistribution) so if this is an upgrade from prior to Microsoft fixing their stuff, a dodgy buried copy may be hanging around.
I tin can't give whatsoever more than info at the moment as I should have left the office a while back, only thought I'd rapidly annotation this in example information technology rang any bells for anyone else
